Urban Dreams Computer Training

In October, Urban Dreams provided basic computer training to over 125 parents and students who received a free computer through a cooperative arrangement with the Marcus Foster Institute and the Oakland Unified School District.  Below are the preliminary findings from those surveys.

Table 1 provides an overview of the participation rates by school, location and date of training from those participants who completed a Workshop Evaluation Form.

Section 2: Parent Comments from Computer Training Workshops

Question: Do you have any other comments or ideas on how to improve the workshop?

Oakland Tech, 10-09-02

I think it’s a great program that saved me money.

No, it’s OK.  She can just be a little clearer in presenting the information.

Keep smiling and don’t give up.

Speak louder and clearly.

No, everything was explained good.

No, the workshop is fine.

Oakland Tech, 10-10-02

This is a wonderful opportunity for those not fortunate enough to own a computer, thanks.

Information was brief and to the point.

No I don’t, but thank you for the opportunity.

Oakland Tech, 10-16-02

I already know a lot about computers, but I did learn a couple of things.

No, this was a very excellent workshop and I hope that I have the chance to be able to come to another one even just to listen in on what she has to say!

I just would like to thank the instructor for giving us the information we need to use the computer.  I would like [to thank] the program maker for bringing this program to Oakland Technical High School.

Get more parents and child participation.

Oakland Tech, 10-17-02

I’m glad I came to this class.  I learned so much about maintaining my computer.  Now I’m going home to clean my hard drive.  Thank you!

Instructor did a good job explaining each thing.

Great instructor and staff.

Don’t speak so loud.

Very informative.

No comments.  Great workshop.

No, I don’t.  But I could say thank you.

No, not at all.

Question: Do you have any other comments or ideas on how to improve the workshop?

Oakland High, 10-22-02

Not really.

Thank you [for] giving my daughter computer.

My comments is that your guys did GREAT!

No thanks.

McClymonds High, 10-26-02

Get pre-registered e-mail accounts.  Make sure the computer for demonstration works right too.

I liked the workshop.

The instructor was very helpful and answered all of my questions.  And I learned a lot in the three hours I was here.  Thank you

Oakland Tech, 10-26-02

J  was very helpful and informed us enough to venture out on my own!  Thanks

No, I think J did a great job of showing us how to use a computer.

I have no questions.

Is there a way to format a floppy?

I think this workshop is good.  Not any ideas.

I think everything was done perfectly and I have no ideas on how to improve it.

Good job

It’s a great idea to have this program.

No, everything is A OK!

Oakland High, 10-29-02

You should put two teachers in a class because they don’t pay attention to most of the people.

To show us on a screen or a TV or something.

We learned a lot.

I don’t have any comments.

No, everything was explained well.

Thank you for your time and the opportunity for learning computers.
